About
The building of Tequila came from a meeting of minds, with students interested in have their own station, and the university ready to back a project. A group of students, Arielle Tye (The 1st Station Manager), Gregg Bayes, Matt Bloxham, Alex Powell, Amy Bridle and Nick Jones initially started to talk about having a station in Cardiff following the move to the ATRiuM, whilst the University were also keen to help develop the idea. Therefore, with the help and work of Adam Perkins (Station Coordinator), Tequila radio was born.
Tequila radio officially went live on Thursday 30th October 2008…Arielle spun the 1st track at 7pm…Heartbeats by The Knife.
Broadcasting from it studio at the ATRiuM, Tequila built to its first goal of running for 12 hours a day – 11am-11pm – five days a week, with plenty of interest from students at the University wanting to showcase their talents. And following this 1st year, it is now getting even bigger, bringing you action seven days a week.
As a society, Tequila will continue to grow and evolve, looking at new an innovative ways at making fresh and exciting radio, whilst broadening its interactive and social horizons. However, this platform will continue the serve the stations main aim and objective, which is to give its members the best chance possible to develop their skills in the radio.
As a general rule Tequila runs more generic shows in the daytime hours, offering a contemporary and new music style format, similar to stations such as 6 Music, XFM and Absolute. The mix of indie, electro, alternative, drum ‘n’ bass and rock fits in with the stereotypical student tastes, reflecting what students want to here. This will then build to more eclectic shows later in the evening, allowing us to offer diversity in our programming. Although presenters are free to develop any type of show they wish, we believe that Tequila will truly become its own brand, with its own identity by offering a certain style and direction.
With the first year completed, Tequila radio appointed its new committee for the 2009/2010 academic year:
